Tuning Into Your Inner Flame: Nurturing Light From Within
As the days grow shorter and we enter the darker months of the year, it’s natural to feel our energy shift inward. Nature teaches us to rest, reflect, and find comfort in stillness. Yet within this quiet, there is a steady light that continues to burn — our inner flame. Your inner flame is that deep, intuitive spark — the part of you that knows what feels true, meaningful, and alive. It’s the warmth that helps you navigate uncertainty and reconnect with your purpose when life feels dim or overwhelming.
Listening for the Light Within
When we slow down enough to listen, our inner flame begins to speak. It might show up as a subtle nudge, a creative impulse, or a deep feeling of “yes” that arises in your body. But often, our inner light gets buried under layers of stress, fear, or the busyness of daily life.
Take a moment to pause. Place your hand on your heart and ask yourself:
What is my inner flame longing for right now?
Sometimes, it may ask for rest. Other times, for expression — through movement, color, or words. This gentle awareness is the first step in tuning back into your own radiance.
Art as a Way Back to Your Inner Flame
Art-making offers a beautiful path to reconnect with your inner flame. When we create without expectation, we begin to hear the quiet whispers of our intuition again.
Try this:
Grab some drawing materials you have nearby.
Create an image of this flame - what does it look like? What colors is it made up of? What size is it?
As you finish and are able to spend some time in self exploration ask it:
What do you need?
How can I continue to support you?
The goal isn’t to make something perfect — it’s to give form to your inner light and remind yourself that it’s always there, even when hidden beneath the ashes.
Tending to Your Flame Daily
Just like a candle, your inner flame needs care and attention.
You can nurture it by:
Spending quiet time each morning to check in with yourself as you drink your coffee or tea.
Saying no to what drains you and yes to what feels aligned.
Engage in your creative journaling practice — a doodle or a few lines in your journal is more than enough.
Each act of mindfulness and creativity is like adding a bit of oxygen to your inner fire.
Let Your Light Lead You
As we move toward the end of the year, let this be a time to honor your inner flame — your vitality, creativity, and wisdom. It doesn’t need to burn brightly all the time; it only needs to be tended with love and presence. When you tune into that gentle inner glow, it becomes a steady guide — illuminating your path, keeping you grounded, and reminding you that warmth and light begin within.
If you want to use Creative Journaling as a way to tend to and explore your inner flame I created two easy to follow guides. One is a free, introductory workbook which includes some introductory journal prompts and information. The other is a longer, more thorough version with 15 prompts for you to follow and explore. Both are available to download or purchase here.
